HELLO! its been very long while....

Hey!!, its been a very long while for not updating my blog. I have been working as intern for 3 months and came back to new semester in university after internship. Today just going to update you guys with my old assignment work which have been done 4 months ago. Looking back my old works made me feel that i am so silly with all those silly mistakes and amateur works done by me.
These are my assignment print ad designs that were made before my internship, Sorry if there's any alignment problem or any amateur color choice.

I used metaphor idea to describe the orphans like the small little stones on the ground being kick around or thrown, abandoned as no one cherish it. But stones are used to build houses which means everyone here do have values, have their worthiness. So, we should also help them to succeed their dreams by providing the guide and education.

This was describing the tagline message which is "Embrace.Encourage.Educate" using a paper airplane folding steps.Embrace means to take, receive and accept, to adopt. To me , accept can be shown through the gesture of hug or arms. Then i thought of the paper airplane folding steps, there's one is fold inwards, that gesture gives me the feeling of embrace, hug or let in. Encourage with the hands open up the wings of the paper airplane is sort of gesture of encouraging the airplane(orphan) to fly. Lastly, the educate with the hand of throwing paper airplane to fly is showing us how to fly with the hand ready to throw the plan up and foward.

I guess this is more directly deliver the message by the visual. So, i do not need to explain this one =)

The spirit of Wushu

Recently, I have been busy working on my painting assignment for more than a week. I have been sleeping late or sleep around 1 am then woke up at 4am to continue finish this painting fast to meet due date. Very tiring.

I won't say i did very great, fine job, but I at least had experience painting something so complex on third quarter of my height canvas size within one and a half week time.

Self mixing the colors was good experience for trial and error but also tiring to force myself keeping the spirit to continue working to finish it.

The composition study process

This painting assignment process need to do research of gathering the wushu photos then combine to form a composition and manipulate them with different effects.

After few consultations, lecturer finally choose this composition as final to be painted.

The Design Idea

I am doing on fashion category.The brand I chose is Zara Spring Collection 2011 exhibition.

The metaphor I chose is spring flowers.

I love the images of tree branches as I was inspired by the structure and shape of the branches as the images of the branches looks polygonal and circling.

This is a study for mural wall color choices of the exhibition design. So that I will not pick the wrong colors and also know the range of options for me to pick.

Hello! long time no update recently. I was busy doing assignments and some other outdoor activities.

This semester my class have this subject called environmental design which is for study about design exhibition stage and some sign board design, so will learn about some architecture stuff such as using their tools to design draw accurately the stage or the standing board, etc.

below are the images of my final chosen design for directory in mall.

after revision and further reference, changes are made.

this is the final design here. and the human figure beside it shows how big is the directory is.

this is my first attempt to make the model mock up but my cutting skill and the sticking them together did not executed nicely. So, I didn't use this one.

After further developing the design and playing with texturing, patterns, I plan to redo the mock up with one different material added in which is the semi transparent color plastic card.

Done! but my cutting skill still bad hahaha.

Recently busy doing assignments, still haven't got the time to do any artworks for my own. Anyway, I am happy that i finally got a friend find me to do design for her business assignment. She want me to design a logo for her restaurant business assignment and her group gave the name called " Happy Season/s".

Below here are my Media Innovation / Advertising design assignment. The task is to choose a food product that sells in the supermarket and analyse the situation for the market place and SWOT. Then create and design a logo, tagline, voucher/coupon, paper bag, packaging, 3d modelling and animation for the new product we created.

I chose instant noodle snack and named it Owlker which derived from Owl Rocker. Owl represents the night and rocker means the people who rock/work means night rocker which is my target audience. They are late night workers or study late night and also love midnight snack.

The tagline is " Taste the midnight rocker." which is a metaphor that midnight rocker is the snack food. Means with the midnight rocker (instant noodle snack), your night will be rocked by Owlker, away from the dull working overtime mood.

Thus, the paper bag design which I chose the background with lines which reminds me or the notebook papers to shows like working or studying days where you need to drop things down, to bring closer to the target audience, at the same time, i put colorful circles with the pattern/texture of the noodle which also represent the shape of the food product and also the colours are to cheer the workers up from their dull working days. The thunders and the moon with stars gives the rocker mood and meaning to relate back to the night rocker concept. Because of target audience is urban workers and students, I added the city buildings. Thunder symbol also gives the meaning of the crispy noodle.

New Sketch - Joker Queen

It's a sketch i drawn halfway last semester and this semester i complete it while waiting for another class to come. =)

When i first finished this drawing, i just see her like a joker queen, then i named it joker queen, drawn with ball pens and highlighter and makers then edited the background colors in photoshop.

Making Masquerades 2

Finally got my masks done yesterday, and just ready for using them for photo shoot, both of them are made of newspapers and metal wires/string to shape them, paint, and spray mount to cover one layer on top of the masks to maintain or make the mask slighty shiny.

I know the real one didn't look as huge as the sketch.. and i didn't add any flowers as i afraid of having too much details, do you think so?

I was learning to make masquerades recently, first time doing masquerade and also first time try used newspapers and metal wires and minor recyclable materials such as the plastic small spoon for coffee cup and Colgate's card box.

Handmade Hat

i made this for photoshooting... the talent haven't free yet for me to photoshoot her.... the hat is hand sew using the cloth that I found in shoe box and the colour plates/circle thingy is made by glue and colour markers..the flower is made using the plastic cover cups and the coffee cup stirring spoons...

I put colours on the coin with colour markers then only put a layer of thick glue on the coin and leave it dry and you will the end product like the image shown above. =) yea, I spent a lot of time to make that during my holiday.

MI CNY soft drink ads assignment

Sorry for very very lag of updating this blog, I was busy with my own works and also school works. And this is one of them. To choose a product from 5 products and match with one special events from 5 different events. In the end, I chose soft drink with Chinese New Year event. After many consultations with lecturers and research from internet and precedent studies, here's the result. The reason I choose pheonix instead of dragon or tiger to represent Chinese New Year is too generic and common as I was told by the lecturer so I used pheonix in the end.

This was done by mixed software and media which is photo cutout, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop.

Recycle Old Clothes Project

this is an old pants that my mum already cut off half of it and left it here. Thus, I think of using it to make a box to keep my shade glasses.

and I cut out corner pieces of these polystyrene food containers that I collected from buying meat in supermarket. I have two of these and used to combine together to form a box then sew the cloth pocket to put the polystyrene in to form a solid box shape to protect the glasses.

and I decorate it by sewing my name on it ^_^"

I am "proud" to present you... (lolz)

My first handmade recyclable figurine.

yaya.. i know its not as nice as those standard good quality smooth surface figurines selling outside, i also wish i can do that.. but becoz of time and works.. i just try to complete coz this project already delayed so long.. so i wanna complete fast..

I chose gold in the end after all that color choice tests because I want to make it look powerful, strong, and valuable. But at the same time black, shows the opposite of gold in some way, darkness, empty.. black hole etc.. so its imperfect, incomplete. With the name I gave him " Star Chaser" will explain more on why i chose these colours in the end, means he is chasing the star(dream) and haven't got it yet, so the journey continues..

I did sprayed a layer of spray mount as I thought can make the figurine glossy or shinny, but in the end , turn out nothing happen but make the figurine a bit sticky >.<>

this is the nose that cut according the size but i drew the nose a bit long when fold together.. sigh got error but its my first time, got more to learn HAHA.

tell u one thing, i actually wanna make a tiger soft toy for my cousin who came from Canada for vacation. But failed to make it as you can see so obviously HAHHA

Materials are from the old clothes my family had threw out in a plastic bag and i use it and sponges from my sister that she used for her project last time but no longer using anymore.

So, its consider reuse / recycle , good huh?LOLZ comments and critiques are welcome.

Working in Progress

You must be wondering why got gold and orange together? Because Gold colour paint a bit hard to cover/ paint over white based colour or black will make the gold look darkish. And I remembered last time I did a colour meaning search in Google and it put gold under orange category. So, I thought using orange as based colour. Then, later paint the gold on top of it.

Still in progress... Ya, my colour choice changed...gold and black with a little dark orangie/red..

I hope other members are doing this as well=)

Digital Portrait

I know viewers might get bored for seeing many times of showing digital portrait. But I have to show it, because its my first time do digital portrait! haha.. you gotta give me a chance to show off LOLZ.. kidding.

Anyway, the reason why I do this is because I remember I said the aim is to learn from each other of the skill that each member good at. Thus, its my time to learn to try do digital portrait from Takeshi's influence and inspirations. Therefore, here is it. I know I didn't follow exactly, fully the whole image of the original photo, especially the hair and clothes as I not that good and i also prefer to manipulate them a little since I am not strong as in copying skill/photocopy skill.

Motive Design

Weee~~ Finally, officially, completely, truly, really, finished my this semester and done my last assignment. Our Media Innovation Assignment is to do Motive Design, designing mural wallpaper for different environments which given 5 of them and we need to design 3 of them in abstract form. and cannot use any recognizable objects in it but just simple shapes combine together. And when we look at it, we can feel and know what's this motive design belong to.
There's 5 of them which are, Biochemistry Lab, Zoological Park, Astronomical Observatory Complex, Sport Complex and Archeological Museum. And below are the ones I chose. and hope u all enjoy and do comments or critiques. Thanks. Merry Christmas Eve

After weeks I have been busying doing assignments and this is my another assignment that almost done. It's a group assignment and is done by adobe director 11.5. Kind of hard to do animations compare to flash software. But it ok to use once you get used to it and you will be able to produce your own game or educational applications. the paper bag din spend more time on the research and sketches.. so its just simply done.. ugly right?i know hahaha and the paper bag is self made based on the format that lecturer gave..

I wanna show different cultures in malaysia as we have 3 main races, Indian, Malay and Chinese. Thus, i try to blend the 3 different culture in with the patterns. And using Malaysia flag's colours ( red, blue and yellow) to fill in the logo. The traditional mask looking logo is to give more asian feel's and promote asian's traditional art which inspired me.

The Hibiscus flower is Malaysia's national flower. So, I blend in together as well.
I spent most of the time on the logo research and sketches. Thus, I did well on the logo but sucks at the paper bag design. LOLZ..

Before I start to talk about my logo sketches, I would give a brief introduction or theory I heard from lecturer about designing logo.

Logo must be:
distinctive /unique
coherent/relevant
abstracted
simplified
stylized
rafted in good aesthetics
identify
add value and meaning
to illuminate
to clarify
dramatize
persuade or amuse

But soemtimes design logo can be very subjective because we saw before some logo did not fulfill the all the things i stated above, so depends on you
Color choices also limited to three colour choices to use on the logo

There are 4 types of logo:
Workmark Logo ( Text only)
Lettermark Logo(abbreviation + image)
Brandmark Logo (Image only)
Iconic Logo (Image and Text)
Combo Logo

Below are the sketches for one of the assignments that I have been busying doing which is design a Malaysian International Batik Exposition logo.

I try to blend the "canting" tool with flower petals together, to represent batik with the canting tool.

this is just a simply sketch and lecturer somehow like the idea of this...and persuade me to study further on this

Lecturer also like the idea of Rafflesia to represents Malaysia and the postive and negative patterns played on the petals to represents batik.. but i not planning to use this yet because other student have the same idea of using rafflesia...

this is more on fantasy like, feel, but lecturer said I put too much things blend together.. u will find this logo is illusion kind of logo.. got Hibicus, got 2 fishes and also a butterfly.. the reason I did that way is too show different cultures found in Malaysia as we have different races. The fish is somewhat represents the chinese as they like this kind of fishes which i forgot the name. Gold fish? i think.. and Hibicus represent Malaysia and Butterfly can represent Malay batik..and the colour choices is like a mixture or 3 races (red = chinese, yellow = indian, blue = malay?) =.="

this one is my first idea of the logo .. but seems not very batik enough as I actually wanna try to make it look more modern way of batik.

Last Thursday, my lecturer planned a trip to Pulau Meranti to visit Batik Shop where it also a place to see and introduced us about Malaysian Batik. Batik got use 2 methods to create the patterns on the cloth which are the application of wax with a canting, applying the wax to the fabric include pouring the liquid wax, painting the wax with a brush, and putting hot wax onto pre-carved wooden or copper block (called a cap or tjap) and stamping the fabric.Melted wax (Javanese: malam) is applied to cloth before being dipped in dye. It is common for people to use a mixture of beeswax and paraffin wax.

We paid 60 ringgit for the bus fee and also include the price of the canvas that we used to do batik on the canvas on that day. Quite fun and difficult to adapt the skill as well for newbies like me.

But I did time myself using one hour to sketch out something as they stated with the theme queen.

Recycle Project : Prototype

Something I made as a prototype to me/experimenting about reusing the plastic bottle.
It's 1 litre plastic bottle but I cut it shorter around/slightly taller a bit than normal markers.
I made it to keep my markers in it. In other words, I making a pencil case by using plastic bottle.

I sew a zipper on it so can open and zip up. I suggest that, when you do painting/decorate the surface please do not paint the zipper. Based on my experience or predictions, the painted zipper will be harder to unzip and zip back because the paint harder and thicken the zipper.

After painting, you may coat it with a thin shinny layer. Other than making pencil case, I think you also can try to turn it into lattern with your creativity. =) Enjoy!

Other Reusable/recyclable things

the toilet paper rolls can be reused to separate the things you want to store/ organize.

Have you seen these before? To me, these are rare to get, they are from shoes boxes you bought. Not all of them have these, they put these inside the shoes.

You use this to hang something on it.

Some thin ones able to bent them into shapes you like and then use them to hang light stuff.

I got a story to tell through photographs soon...

I made 100 paper cranes and yet seems very little although each paper cranes wrote 10 sentences of the same wish....

A crane is considered auspicious in China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam. It is one of the symbols of longevity and is often represented with other symbols of long life, such as pine, bamboo, and the tortoise. Vietnamese people consider crane and dragon to be symbols of their culture. In feudal Japan the crane was protected by the ruling classes and fed by the peasants. When the feudal system was abolished in the Meiji era of the 19th century, the protection of cranes was lost. With effort they have been brought back from the brink of extinction. Japan has named one of their satellites tsuru (crane, the bird). According to tradition, if one folds 1000 origami cranes one's wish for health will be granted. Since the death of Sadako Sasaki this applies to a wish for peace as well.

Also, traditional Chinese 'heavenly swans' (tian-e) or 'blessed cranes' (xian-he) were messengers of wisdom. Legendary Taoist sages were transported between heavenly worlds on the backs of cranes.

Rumour has it there was a special crane in Tibet, who would answer the most difficult of life’s questions. Little is known of what became of this magical creature. Some legends state that it lives in an old pagoda, high upon a snowy mountain. Some legends say it grew old and died at peace with nature.

3DS Max Rendering Assignment

Recently, i still busy rendering the 3ds assignment that I've been working on. The whole model is not done by me, the task of this assignment is to choose one of the 3D models from this website and then later i find texture photos to map on the models... and learnt some tutorials from youtube about rendering the leaves on the trees and grass.

But I have this one problem that I don't know what gone wrong. The grass seems not shadows or shadow... I already put the lighting, free light and target light. I put lighting before i add the grass because i want to see the result of lighting so that i can adjust to the correct one before i add the grass, so that I won't need to wait longer time to see the rendered image with lighting and grass

hope anyone can tell me what's wrong, or nth actually gone wrong? is it because the grass is short that very hard to have shadow?=.=

Photography Assignment

Finally done this assignment, its very very tough assignment to me, coz need to find nice place and must suits that the assignment requirements and yet need to try many times to get the nice shot... after i see all my photos i took for model photoshoot, i only realize, must really have a clear mind and patient n calm to take photos , so that you can think or find the right angle to take the photos.. i saw my photoshoots, especially for the Bukit Bintang photoshoot, i very rush snapping photos only... and din really think twice for the angle of the background... a bit regret.
But it was a very very nice experience, coz is my first time take photoshoot in public places with different environments.. it really encourages me to be a little more brave to shoot photos on crowded place without caring how people staring at...if can I really wanna try again!! to take better pics

other than that, taking the waterfall shoot in Bukit Apeh, Ampang. Really another tiring experience , especially climbing on the mountain to search the waterfall in the deep jungle, and i had a lot of sweat, exhausted, but looked back, its very nice to sweat so much since its very very long time i din really sweat so much until i look like been to swimming. 'cause busy with coursework can really make u store all the toxic without sweating them out from exercises...

after this assignment, it really do grow my interest in photography when i see the end products( photos) but also bring frustration and hate when you din get the nice shot after u spent the whole day and time to take the photos.

New Experience for me

After taking photography class for the course i am studying, I learnt more new things and gained a lot of fun and taste of being a beginner photographer.
my camera is Canon 400D, not really mine, can say is my sister's one coz she took photography class before, and now i borrowed and use, after learning photography, i feel like wanna own one in future and take it as my side/part time job hahaha... IF i am skillful enough, i know not now, i still lame yet compare to professional ones...
